The Adolescent Resilience Model and Interventions to Promote Resilience—Critique

Mary Jo Kupst, PhD

Medical College of Wisconsin, mkupst{at}mail.mcw.edu

Dr Joan Haase has paid meticulous attention to methodology in the frequently hazy area of coping and resilience. More important, her emphasis is on the positive side of coping and adaptation. Her work has many strengths. Although the author of this article will discuss points specific to the Adolescent Resilience Model (ARM), the questions are for all of us who struggle to make sense of the way people cope, why some are more resilient than others, and how to strengthen coping and resilience.

Key Words: adolescent • resilience • cancer • interventions
