Endomyocardial Biopsy in Pediatric Oncology: Implications for NursingPacific Presbyterian Medical Center in San Francisco, California At Pacific Presbyterian Medical Center endomyocardial biopsies are utilized in pediatric oncology patients to evaluate the degree of cardiotoxicity resulting from the anthracycline agents doxorubicin and daunorubicin. This article discusses the indications, technical aspects, potential risks and complications of endomyocardial biopsy in pediatric oncology patients. The nursing care of the pediatric patient and family, as well as age-specific teaching guidelines, are described.
